LCS Foundation Names 2024 UNI Scholarship Recipient
The University of Northern (UNI) Iowa has announced Katelyn Braga as the recipient of the 2024 LCS Foundation University Scholarship. Braga was selected to receive the scholarship by the UNI School of Applied Human Services scholarship committee. The LCS Foundation scholarship supports students passionate about the senior living industry.
Braga is a sophomore pursuing a double major in social work and gerontology with a minor in family studies. “I am honored to receive this scholarship,” Braga said. “And thankful to the LCS Foundation for this opportunity.”
For Katelyn, her passion for working with older adults stems from a personal connection to Alzheimer’s disease.
“I am passionate about working with older adults because my grandma had Alzheimer’s for 17 years,” she said. “My mom and her sisters were tireless advocates for my grandma and worked hard to make sure she was treated well - which drives my desire to advocate for people with dementia and their families.”
After graduation, Braga hopes to do social work assisting older adults.
The LCS Foundation has established a strong partnership with UNI to support the continued education of students pursuing degrees in the senior living industry. Through the program, university scholarships are awarded annually. Other schools where scholarships are in place include Northwood University, the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire and the Granger Cobb Institute for Senior Living at Washington State University.
